Just like every baby or toddler around, Chou-chou is very "into" his mouth. And since he has been so interested in pulling all his books out and turning the pages all by himself recently, reading it would seem, I thought we'd try to combine interests to see if we could learn a new trick. We sat down with his book "Mon Corps"the other day to see if we could learn all about "la bouche" and other body parts. I do a lot of "Où est" this and "Où est" that (translation: "where is...") with Chou-chou as it is, constantly trying to involve him in the task at hand: "Où est ta tettine?" before a nap, or "Où sont tes chaussettes" before leaving the apartment. My hope with "Mon Corps" was that he would show me his various body parts as we went through the book. Up 'til this point he hasn't really showed me things I ask him to find. He'll look at or crawl to his shoes and socks when I ask him where they are, or mischieveously giggle at the cats if they come up in conversation. He gets it quite obviously, and understands the vast majority of what I say to him. But with our little "lesson" I was looking for something bigger than a giggle or a glance-- I selfishly wanted a "trick":)
So... wouldn't you know it!- one of the first body parts illustrated in his "My body" book is the mouth! Perfect! Chou-chou was very quick to catch on to putting his hand to, or into, his mouth when we got to this picture, and playing with his tongue (or my tongue:)) and mouth was such a crack-up for him. I tried to make a big deal out of touching his hair and shaking my mop top in his face when we got to "les cheveux", and doing Eskimo kisses for the "le nez" picture. Somehow, though, it continues to be all about "la bouche" to Chou-chou, and "la langue" (the tongue).
We've been through "Mon Corps" in this style quite a few times now, and I keep hoping he'll show me something else, like his belly-button maybe (he's often interested in mine after he's done nursing nowadays). Last night, cuddled up in our double-wide cozy chair, we went through our routine of "Où est ta bouche?" and "Où est ______?". When we got to belly-button, I realized I couldn't show him his since he was wearing a onesie, so instead I showed him mine and poked his through his shirt. True to Chou-chou's mouth-obsessed style, though, he just laughed and proceeded to try to nurse my belly-button!! So much for our "lesson"...:)
