Baby Boy: Will crawl in exchange for electronic devices

That's right, you read correctly... Chou-chou crawls! He took his first multi-step crawls yesterday, May 22nd. They are pretty wobbly and frustrating for the time-being, but he's got it! The only things he'll make a big crawl effort for, though, are cameras, cell phones and keys. All the most exciting "toys"! And it looks like, as I write, he's going for the big wheels of the jogger stroller... probably to pull-up on, though. That's right, he's pulling up, too! This past week has been the most amazing week in Chou-chou's development thus far. It's like one thing right after another! So let's see... last Sunday he woke up and started "talking". Is it babbling when they do two-syllables together? Not sure. Anyway, his talking is a combo of "grrs", "baaas" and some other sounds that I can't recall at the moment. I'll have to update that later. In any case, he's been talking up a storm! It was so sweet when last night, as he was nursing in the bath (couldn't wait the ten minutes til bedtime!), he stopped every so often to just look at me really thoughtfully (he's not usually so calm and attentive at the same time when he nurses nowadays), and then all of a sudden when he was done, he just looks at me and goes "grrr, bah bah" and then waits for my response. If I only knew what he was saying!! I'll just assume he was saying "Mama I love you", cause that's what it felt like:)
Then, on Monday night as we were sitting in Chou-chou's room by his bed, waiting for him to go to sleep, he pulls up on the side of crib rails! What?! Since when can he do Of course, we're both trying not to laugh as he grunts, all out of breath, staring at us (we're ignoring him, looking away) from over the edge of the crib two feet away. Plus, we're thinking "Do we lower the crib right now, or can it wait til tomorrow?"
The alleged tooth... yeah, the one I claimed he cut on Mother's Day (way to make Mama look like a fool!), has yet to appear and threatens its imminent arrival this week, too. Apparently, and don't think I'm totally nuts, teeth can receed!! His doc confirmed this for me last weekend when I swore that his tooth had cut just a couple days earlier (and then disappeared). Kind of like giving birth (sorry for the image), as you push the baby out it's out a little, back in a little. How frustrating! Anyway, so there's the teething business, as usual...
Two days ago he started clapping (May 21st)! I don't even think we've really been practicing that together, he just figured it out all on his own. So now he'll clap when you clap... so cute!
And then the crawling yesterday, which I forgot to mention was preceeded by going from tummy to sitting, which he started doing at the end of last week (around May 16thish).
What a big boy! And through all of this, I made the executive decision that we had to start nightwaking sleep training on Monday night, after suffering several nauseating bouts of insomnia over the last week or so. I'm having a really hard time getting to sleep repeatedly throughout the night, especially when Chou-chou wakes up every 1.5 hours (yes, you read correctly). I felt ill on Monday, after not falling asleep til 5am. So I apologize to all the folks I've been meaning to email... I've been slacking, mainly due to sleep deprivation. Jarod's been camping out on Chou-chou's floor this week, suffering through the waking, as we attempt to wean Chou-chou off his constant boob attachment. The crying is SO hard to deal with, but Jarod's in his room helping him through the whole thing, so it feels a little better. We're trying to get him to go down to just one middle of the night nursing at this point. It's been really rough, and unfortunately we haven't made a ton of progress in the last four days. With the crawling going on this week, it was probably the worst possible week to try sleep training. He just wakes up and sits straight up in his crib, unable to settle back down. Ugh. We swaddled him last night, which seemed to help a little. We've had two nights with progress (nights 1 and 3), but last night seemed like a regression. To top it off, we're headed up to Seattle this weekend for my birthday/Memorial Day, so our progress will probably be lost. I like to think it won't be ALL lost, though, and hopefully next week will be a better time, a more settled time, for Chou-chou to sleep through (part) of the night. Wish us luck, please!! We need it! As I type, Chou-chou has been enticed to crawl by something new... electrical cords! Gotta run!

Quelle horreur! I had no idea that Chou-Chou woke so frequently at night. You and Jarod have all my sympathy! I hope that it's getting better now. (Does he nurse that often during the day as well?) At least he's developing some other delightful tricks like crawling and making consonant sounds to help balance out the pain of the sleepless nights! Bon courage!
