Chou-chou and I were "hanging out" over at a friend's the other day-- him happily playing on the floor and she and I chatting-- when the other mom and I heard a distinctively "piggy" sound. We looked down to see that Chou-chou had squished his face up, puckered his lips and was breathing heavily through his nose. Oh yeah, and drool was running down his chin at the same time. My friend and I both starting cracking up at Chou-chou's new impersonation (or im-animal-ation?:)), but he didn't seem in the least bit phased by our laughter! I wish I could get a picture of Chou-chou doing his "petit cochon" face, but each time he does it it's only for a couple seconds. The camera's most always ready for photo-ops, but I'd have to just get lucky to capture this fleeting beast! Daddy's convinced he's playing with his tongue when he does it, but I tend to think his residual cold-symptoms (aka snottiness) caused him to try to "move things around" a bit in his nasal cavity. Whichever it is, it's pretty funny to watch!
Also, so I don't forget, Chou-chou seems to be saying "no" now. Obviously he's not actually saying "no", but by this I mean he's doing something different with his mouth to create new sounds. We're moving past the simple vowel oooos and aahhs. Exciting! Maybe my linguist friends could tell me the technical definition of this... the books call it babbling, I believe (as opposed to cooing?). And I don't think "n" is supposed to crop up yet, but that's just what it sounds like to me at this point. More updates to follow.

It'll be fun for you to keep track of what sounds he makes when! Any nasal vowels yet? :)
