Creeping up on 9 months...

Chou-chou is no longer creeping, though. We've stepped over into new territory recently, as Chou-chou has perfected his crawling skills and realized his power to get around. "Watch out kitties- baby on the loose!!" and "Watch out Mommy- baby near dangerous ________(fill in the blank)!" are commonly heard (or heard in my head at least) phrases around here. We haven't yet babyproofed everything, either, which needs to happen one of these days. I've relocated the cat food from the hallway to the kitchen and put the garbage can under the sink, but I still have to do something about the house plants, exposed electrical cords, and coffee table (should we get a bumper to cushion the inevitable falls as he tries to stand?). It's kinda sad in a way, but good too, that as Chou-chou squeals with delight when a cat nears, the cats now run quickly away. So far I haven't seen a real disappointment in his face. I can see that he thinks of them as his same-size playmates, though, so it's like he gets rejected each time:( First lesson in rejection, I guess!

Over Memorial Day weekend we went up to Bainbridge Island in WA to see my beloved aunt, uncle and cousins, and Chou-chou did great! He slept through the night (10:30-5:15) for the FIRST TIME IN HIS LIFE the night before we left (also the night before my bday... and his sleeping was my bday wish), which I knew we were going to ruin by travelling, but he didn't do too badly actually. He woke up once in the middle of the night, then at 5am-ish both nights. He loved the rocky beach on their property, the ferry ride from Seattle to Bainbridge, and my cousin's Pomeranian (kind of like a cat, but lickier). Since our return a week ago, Chou-chou's been waking up once middle of the night and then again around 5-5:30. I can handle this! The past two nights he's woken up more, though, so I took him to the ped today and discovered that he does have ANOTHER ear infection, as I suspected. At least it's a little consolation to know that there's a valid REASON for the waking. Here we go with the numbing drops and tylenol again... and the ped, the one who swore his top teeth were within 2 days of cutting three weeks ago, now says both are cutting at the same time. We'll see... I'm not holding my breath, but they do appear to be white, so who knows.

Other news... Chou-chou really loves knocking over his oatmeal towers still, loves peekaboo when you cover up his face (seems to really enjoy the sensation of cloth on face), LOVES cheerios, LOVES clapping with others, and has a few favorite books: "Ou te caches-tu petit lapin?", "Perfect Pets" w/tactile pictures, and "Leon, petit cochon" w/ finger puppet pig. Oh yeah, and I let him try a friend's exersaucer last Friday for just a couple minutes and he was SO excited! Too bad they're not great for baby, otherwise he'd have one, too. What else... loves swinging at the park.

Chou-chou has his 9-month checkup in a couple weeks and Daddy and I have to agree on a vaccinations schedule here pretty quick. He was up-to-date as of 4 months, but we've been on the fence since his high fever reaction and all the reading up we've been doing. Jarod and I read the same book and had two different reactions: I'm afraid of Chou-chou getting the illnesses, and he's afraid of the vaccine risks! What to do... Yes, we're the parents pediatricians hate. Chou-chou WILL be vaccinated, just not as quickly as the CDC would like him to be. ANYWAY, enough of that. More news to come, and for now some pictures.

Youpie! Chou-chou slept through the night! Is this a pattern now? Griffin still wakes up once a night.

He also had a fever after his four-month shots, and he projectile vomited twice after his two-monthers. Beurk.

Why are exersaucers not good? I know that walkers are problematic, but exersaucers are so fun! Carl loved his!

Hi Sarah!
No, unfortunately with this bout of ear infection/teething fun, we're back to more nightwaking. So far it's manageable...only twice a night. I'm so jealous of Griffin! I've known for a long time that Chou-chou is on the unfortunate end of the spectrum, but ah... how nice that would be! He's just starting to feel better, so hopefully we can get back on "track" (for a month or something til the next thing interrupts it!).
Exersaucers! I'm sure for how much Carl and so many others use them it's no big deal. We had to do PT with Chou-chou for his torticollis from months 2-5 and the PT and his Ped were SO adamant about not using them that we took ours back. Apparently they mess with the way we're supposed to develop as humans- the torso strength should come before legs. I googled exersaucers and came back with a bunch of stuff...
Honestly, if it were just up to me I'd probably let Chou-chou use one now and again, but Jarod is surprisingly overprotective! Plus, we got rid of ours after going through PT with a very small infant... you'll do whatever just so they're as "perfect" as can be!
