Welcome to the Hobbs household! After more than 48 hours of an elevated "fuss" level, Chou-chou "cut" his first tooth on Monday afternoon! We thought the darn thing would never show up, but alas the first white--sharp-- tooth emerged. We've discovered that Mommy's and Daddy's hands and fingers may no longer be the best teethers, as Chou-chou could now draw blood:) Ouch! As if this first tooth weren't enough, this morning we awoke to a faucet running out of Chou-chou's face: drool down the chin and snot out the nose. Not a pleasant combo, especially not for Chou-chou. His 102 degree fever didn't make things any better. My normally loud, active little boy weakly stared at his toys this morning and cried to be held. So sad. I wasn't sure that such a high fever could be caused by teething alone, so we went in to see "pediatrician #3" for the first time. He seemed alright (the doc), so I'm cautiously optimistic that he'll be a keeper. Anyway, Chou-chou's just got a bug in addition to his new tooth... or teeth! That's right, Number Two is making it's way through the gums right now. Apparently they come in pairs. Hmm... and apparently, at least for Chou-chou, nasty colds go along with new teeth. When it rains it pours!
I am happy that Chou-chou got his first tooth before the six month mark because I'm really excited to start solids on his half-birthday--supposedly having a tooth is a good indicator that the baby's ready for food. Jarod's been a real stickler about waiting the full six months, even though Chou-chou has been inhaling our food with his eyes for about a month now and drinking water out of a sippy, so I'm happy he's got a tooth to meet all the "requirements" (in addition to sitting unassisted-- check!, and no longer having the tongue push reflex thingy--check!). It's easy to succumb to peer pressure in this whole parenting business, and most of Chou-chou's buddies have been eating grown-up baby food for a month or two. Patience is not a trait I come by easily, so following the recommendations and waiting it out has been tough for me. I have a freezer full of homemade organic baby food... 7 more days!!!

Hi Dory! Linked to you from Megan's blog.... your little man is so cute! I love to read your stories, brings back so many memories of Maddy and so much to look forward to with Karis.... and trust me, teething IS the most ruinous part of babyhood. We found chamomilla from our doctor was the only thing that helped.... how did it go with Dr Zapff?
